What's wrong with this picture?

I'm getting really tired of Michelle Obama positioned as the Savior of American Fashion. If that were truly the case, she'd make a statement, come to NYC and stand with us in solidarity as we storm the Department stores and boutiques demanding our due: SUPPORT. But she isn't. She goes about her days dressed in less than ground shifting clothes. Wearing Jason Wu and Thakoon Panichgul to the G-20 talks is really not news. She's photographed with the wife of Britain's Prime Minister in J.Crew (pictured right). Her championing of these designers is not a gesture of banner waving support: it's just simply a display of middling taste on her part. She is the savior of these 2 labels and maybe Narciso and Isabel Toledo and J.Crew when the mood strikes her, or more specifically, when the mood strikes Ikram, her retailing stylist. Her taste is not to be questioned or judged , but it does raise questions nonetheless. Why these guys?
Ok, she's not Madame Sarkozy with the experience and relationships with the greatest designers in this cosmos, but she certainly has access if she chooses. This brings me back to my initial statement. Michelle Obama is the First Lady . That's going to have be good enough, which is plenty good considering the woman she is.
Savior of American Fashion ??? I think not.

You certainly were generous not to post the full-length version of that picture!

Michelle has been as energetic as her husband so far, and seems dedicated to several very good causes, groups, etc. beyond just taking care of her own family. She's fresh, smart and pretty, but fashion is clearly not among her passions, and that's just fine with me.

dear Anonymous,
It's perfectly fine with me too. We all have our missions in life and those of us who are clear on what they are are very fortunate. Michelle is one person whose head is definitely screwed on straight. She is a very smart cookie and we're very lucky to have her as our First Lady, her husband the President is damn good too!

Oh, Fluff, where do i begin with Michelle...
And though i do admire a First Lady that is clearly a First Lady To Be Getting Some in the White House, and looks wonderful, but the position they put her in. I am a little scared: Marie Antoinette got beheaded for dressing up during crisis. Now, of course, Michelle doesn't need to appear ugly, or sartorially challenged in order to appeal, but she forgets that people build you up, to then simply tear you down. Happens to everyone. I would hate to see it happen to her.

I have to say that Michelle looked great in the magenta dress she wore in France. It seemed carefully chosen and well-tailored, unlike the London duds. When she tries she's really stunning and I'm even diverted from the President's boring taste in ties!

But, I agree with you Fluff, they could both wear burlap bags and I would still be grateful to have this smart and engaged couple at the helm.

All of this "dishonest" hype about Michelle Obama's wardrobe drives me crazy. Her choices were so inapproriate.
She should never wear a belt. It looks like it is placed under her arms.
I'm sorry, she dresses as if she plans on visiting the gym or a uniform like the "black widow spider" dress she wore at the convention.
Fashion taste, not this First Lady.
